In this on-going process of facilitating the formation of EWERs across several conflict-affected provinces in Central Mindanao, the ability to anticipate and mediate tension is not just valuable but it is life-saving, making this EWER group the communityโs first line of defense in times of calamities. It is crucial for transforming local women and indigenous people from recipients of aid into active architects of peace. This EWER mechanism is women-led and gender-sensitive, ensuring that security efforts are truly inclusive, also addressing vulnerabilities unique to women, and integrating their perspectives to build a holistic and sustainable response to community threats.
