Transforming Fragilities facilitated an orientation training to 150 participants, divided into three batches of Solid Waste Management (SWM) Task Force members from 15 barangays of Cotabato City, from February 14 to February 16, 2024.
The activity aimed to determine from the participants the current level of awareness and practices of residents in Cotabato City on solid waste management, as well as provide additional information to existing knowledge gaps on SWM. The event also sought to compare current city government thrusts on SWM and Circular Economy to the perspectives of the SWM-TF members in their respective barangays, and correct misconceptions based on Republic Act 9003 (Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000) and its implementing rules and regulations. The training likewise shared information on circular economy, SWM in other urban centers, and on how to apply these in their respective barangays and in their city.
Three members from TFI’s pool of experts who have experience in SWM, urban planning, civic participation in local governance, value chain analysis, and environmental protection served as resource persons of this activity: Ms. Elsie Silva Villanueva, Mr. Dennis Librado, and Mr. Jimmy Dalgan.
The training is part of TFI’s Integrated Solid Waste Management and Circular Economy Adaptation in Cotabato City Project, which is implemented in partnership with World Vision Development Foundation, Inc. (WVDFI) with generous support from the European Union (EU).
