Driving Change Through Data: Collaborations in Evaluations and Research

From November to December, Transforming Fragilities Inc. (TFI) stood at the forefront, offering technical support to key organizations—Nonviolent Peaceforce, Childfund Philippines, The Asia Foundation, and People in Need (PIN). Together, TFI tackled pressing issues, making a tangible impact and driving positive change in a collaborative pursuit of solutions.

ATTAIN Project Evaluation

TFI implemented an end-of-project evaluation of the ATTAIN Project of Nonviolent Peaceforce (NP), which centered on Accompanying the Transition, Transformation of Conflict, and Advocacy on Social Cohesion in the Normalization of Bangsamoro. The engagement included training of field teams from Maguindanao provinces, Lanao provinces and Basilan, a mixed method data collection process, and an outcome harvesting process with NP and local partners.

Child Rights Situational Analysis with Childfund Philippines

In parallel, TFI collaborated with Childfund Philippines in the conduct of a Child Rights Situational Analysis (CRSA) in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM). The CRSA guided initiatives addressing gaps in realizing children’s rights. Stakeholder consultation activities deepened understanding in Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao del Sur, and Special Geographical Areas (SGA).

Civic Spaces Dynamics Survey with The Asia Foundation

Further, TFI collaborated with The Asia Foundation on a nationwide CSO survey to understand dynamics within civic spaces. Preceding a 3-day gathering, orientation, and training for field researchers to collect data from national and local Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs). This initiative extended beyond typical civil society organizations, including think tanks, universities, and associations. The focus of this engagement was on unraveling the interplay between civil society and political realms, offering insights beyond conventional understandings.

Market Assessment of the Seaweed Value Chain with PIN

Additionally, TFI, led by Elsie Villanueva, a member of TFI’s Pool of Experts, partnered with PIN to conduct a targeted market assessment of the seaweed value chain, focusing on women, youth, and indigenous populations in the Provinces of Sulu and Tawi-Tawi. This assessment is part of the PIN project, “Leveraging and Expanding Agri-Aqua Production (LEAP) in Bangsamoro,” aimed at supporting economic development in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) through a strategic emphasis on the seaweed and coffee value chains in the island provinces of Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi. The partnership with PIN specifically focuses on Participatory Market System Development, Gender and Value Chain Analysis, and Market/Commodity Flow Mapping.

Ongoing Evaluations and Analyses

Continual evaluations and analyses form a vital aspect of TFI’s approach, aiming to comprehensively understand the impact of these collaborative efforts. These services align with TFI’s tracks: Track 1 – Data for Programme Management and Development and Track 3 – Programme Evaluation. This highlights the organization’s dedication to evidence-based decision-making and continuous improvement.
